D took the day off work today and arranged for our two oldest children to go and play with friends so we could spend the day together. We had such a great day. We spent the morning out window shopping and had take aways for lunch, then spent the afternoon chatting by the fire. It was a cold, wet and blustery day outside, so perfect for spending indoors.
For me it also felt like a day off. I didn’t cook, do washing or any dishes or other house work. We spent most of the afternoon chatting about our family vision. We hadn’t done this in a long time and I have to say it’s great to know where we are going, what we want to achieve as a couple and as a family, and how we want to live this life. We just brainstormed, and jotted notes down on paper, but tonight I categorised all our ideas into the following headings:
Now that we have a vision and have it written down, it will be easier to make decisions about all kinds of things by simply asking the question “Does this support our vision?”
Here’s some of our ideas: We want to have breakfast together every day as a family, we want to have an annual holiday, we want to have an open home, we want to home school our children, we want to have music in our home, we want to help the poor (predominately in undeveloped countries) we’d love to take the whole family on an apostolic(missions) trip overseas, we want to live a simple life, we want to read to our children more. The rest are secrets ;) . For now at least.
I really feel like we spent the day in the best way that we could have. And now, I really need to get to bed. Family breakfast is at 7am and I’ve gotta get more sleep. I’ll let you know how it goes.
