The formative period for building character for eternity is in the nursery. The mother is queen of that realm and sways a scepter more potent than that of kings or priests. ~Author Unknown
Well, I hope I wield that sceptre with gentleness and grace, but certainly we do carry a big responsibility and have a lasting influence over our little children’s lives. It’s probably because most of us know this that we beat ourselves up so often about our inadequacies and failures. Mothering our little ones is something we take seriously. We only get one chance to shape their character, and instill values that will see them through.
And, it is such a privilege! We have such influence over our little children because they love and need us so very much. We are their world. I love it the simplicity of their love and security in us. My 8 month old boy is a classic example of their absolute need for Mum. If he is feeling afraid (of being overwhelmed by siblings or older children) or hurt or lonely, he is instantly comforted and at ease as soon as I am near him. In his world, if I am there, everything is OK. I love that I make him feel safe.
