The Borrowers

The Borrowers -Mary Norton

I remember reading this as a child and was fascinated by the idea of little people living in our homes ‘borrowing’ our ordinary items. It’s a great idea for a children’s book and grabs the imagination.

But, I didn’t really enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. I read it aloud to E5 and she loved it and asked for the sequel. We got the next book out from the library, but I couldn’t bring myself to read it to her (Sorry E5). I can’t really put my finger on why I didn’t enjoy it. Maybe the language didn’t lend itself to reading aloud? Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more alone.

Anyway, not one I would read again, although young readers would probably enjoy it for imagination fodder.
