The Tea Rose – Jennifer Donnelly

It was the story that got me. A saga, always moving with plenty of twists and turns. East London, Jack the Ripper, New York. Love, marriage, divorce. Murder, revenge, scandal, gangsters and mystery. This story seemed to have it all. I found the characters likable and real to me, and I desperately wanted our main character Fiona, to over come the hardships she faced, and to find happiness. Despite it being full of unlikely coincidences, I was caught up in the characters. I felt like I was in the East End in 1888. Jennifer Donnelly created a world for me and I was lost in the story. It’s a long book, but I found myself reading large chunks at a time. I believe there is a sequel, but I’m not sure I want to go there…especially if it’s more of the same. Time for something different, but I really did like this while it lasted.
